GLEN WATER  LTD SECURES £122 MILLION CONTRACT TO DELIVER PROJECT OMEGA

Glen Water Ltd has been awarded a £122 million contract by Water Service to deliver its Waste Water Treatment and Sludge Disposal Project.

A joint venture company between two of the leading names within the UK water and international construction industry, Thames Water and Laing O'Rourke, Glen Water Ltd will be responsible for delivering Project Omega, one of the largest Public Private Partnership (PPP) Schemes in the UK.

The Omega project has been procured using a design, build, finance and operate contract that will enable Northern Ireland to meet stringent EU standards and regulations on wastewater treatment and sludge disposal.

Representing excellent value for money Glen Water Ltd will implement a solution that will provide savings in excess of 17% from Water Service's initial estimates. Upon completion Glen Water Ltd will manage 20% of Northern Ireland's wastewater treatment capability and 100% of the region's sludge disposal capacity.

Uner an advance works contract, Glen Water Ltd has already started the construction of a new state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility at Donaghadee, which upon completion will be one of the most advanced facilities in the UK, and rival the best in Europe.

The other wastewater treatment facilities included in the Omega project are located at Ballynacor, Bully's Hill, Seagoe, Armagh, Richill and Ballyrickard. New pumping stations will also be constructed at Donaghadee, Millisle and Briggs Rock. Glen Water Ltd will be responsible for operating and maintaining all of the new and enhanced facilities for the next 25 years.

Construction of a second incinerator at Duncrue Street, Belfast, needed for the safe treatment and disposal of sewage sludge, is also scheduled to begin shortly.
