Glen Water Ltd, the contractor appointed to deliver Northern Ireland Water’s £122m Project Omega, has issued an urgent appeal to drivers using the Corcreevy Road, Richhill and the Drumcairn Road, Armagh to slow down as they approach the sites of the Wastewater Treatment Works.

“Although we have clearly visible advisory signage in place to warn drivers of the heavy site traffic entering and exiting sites, traffic is still approaching at excess speed,” said Jim Conlon, Glen Water’s General Manager.

“Despite these efforts it has become evident that the advisory signage is being ignored by many local motorists and there have recently been an increasing number of “near misses” at the entrance to our sites as HGV’s attempt to enter and leave,” said Duncan McAllister, Project Manager.

“Glen Water is concerned that there is potential for a serious accident despite all legal measures having been taken.  In addition to this appeal we are seeking further advice from the local authorities to see if there are any other reasonable steps which can be taken in order to prevent an accident,” saidJim Conlon, General Manager, Glen Water.

Glen Water (a joint venture between Thames Water and Laing O’Rourke) began work on the upgrade of Richhill and Armagh Wastewater Treatment Works in May 2007.  The work will take approximately 18 months to complete.
