Glen Water, the company appointed by Northern Ireland Water to build and operate the new Waste Water Treatment Works in Donaghadee and associated pumping stations at Briggs Rock, Donaghadee and Millisle, has announced a major sponsorship with Ards Borough Council to provide Christmas lights and decorations in Donaghadee.

The three year deal will kick off on 7th December with a special ceremony to mark the switching on of the lights and the beginning of festive celebrations in Donaghadee.

Councillor Robin Drysdale, Mayor of Ards, explained, “The partnership between Ards Borough Council and Glen Water means that there will be a really good, festive feeling in Donaghadee.  As well as the lights, this year there will be Carol Singing, face painting, seasonal food and a Bar-B-Q.  We will also have a ‘wishing tree’, where wishes can be put onto stars, from the shops and then hung on the tree.  Santa will also arrive, by Lifeboat!”

He continued, “The investment fromGlen Water and the Council has really enhanced the Christmas experience in Donaghadee.  We are also very grateful to the Department for Social Development’s Town Marketing and Promotional Fund, which allowed the promotion of this Christmas event, along with our new website www.visitdonaghadee.com and Donaghadee as ‘the Light of the Coast’.”

“Glen Water is delighted to support this initiative which we hope all of the people of Donaghadee enjoy,” said Jim Conlon, General Manager, Glen Water.  “Whilst the majority of our construction work in the area is completed, this major investment will leave a tangible legacy for the people of the town to enjoy in the years to come as well as the cleaner coastline delivered through the project.”

Richard Sweeney, Chairman of Donaghadee Traders Association said:

“Glen Water has undertaken the treatment works project with great expedience and professionalism.  The traders have experienced a first class business relationship throughout this development period.  We are extremely grateful to Glen Water and the Council for their sponsorship of the Donaghadee Christmas lights and decorations. This is a wonderful gesture which is warmly welcomed by the community of Donaghadee. I extend my sincere thanks to the officers of Glen Water and Project Omega for their dedication to this relationship and we look forward to future business together.“
