Glen Water, has launched a new photography competition to find some of Northern Ireland’s most talented and environmentally conscious photographers.
Organised in response to World Environment Day, which this year focuses on global warming or ‘Melting Ice - a hot topic’, the competition will run throughout the months of June and July.
All entries must either depict man-made activities that are contributing towards climate change or illustrate what the effects of global warming mean to the individual photographer.
With three separate age group categories including, 10-15 year olds, 15-21 year olds, and 21 year olds and over, all successful entrant’s photographs will be put on display at a specially held exhibition in the summer.
Two winners selected from each category will receive top-of-the-range bicycles with safety helmets and have their work placed on the Glen Water website.
“The aim of the competition is to encourage people to think more about the world they live in, in particular what man-made factors are contributing towards global warming and the effect it is having on the environment,” said Jim Conlon, General Manager, Glen Water.
Glen Water has been selected by Northern Ireland Water to deliver Project Omega a £122 million PPP programme that will help to create healthier, cleaner beaches along the North Down/Ards coastline and allow Northern Ireland to meet strict new EU regulations on water quality.
“Northern Ireland Water was one of the first water utilities to introduce a formal environmental management system and is pleased to be working with companies which take such a keen interest in protecting the environment,” said Martin McIlwaine, Project Sponsor for Northern Ireland Water.
An environmentally forward thinking company, Glen Waterdeploys a number of innovative environmentally sustainable construction techniques at all of its building sites.
“As a matter of course we employ a number of environmentally friendly work practices in all of our sites. These range from the re-use of all excavated materials, to comprehensive waste disposal techniques and site-to-site car sharing to reduce carbon emissions,” said Peter Dew, Project Leader, Laing O’Rourke.
A judging panel made up of representatives from Glen Water, Northern Ireland Water, and a local professional photographer will decide on the competition winners, to be announced in August.
